In one sentence: When choosing an interest class in Macau, look at age, temperament and how many lessons a week you can keep up. KARON Education offers music and art classes for children at Rua da Barca, Fai Chi Kei and Rua do Campo: piano from 3–4, drums from about 5, kids art from 5 and singing from 8. Instruments are one-to-one; early-years piano and art run in groups of 4–6.

Which class suits my child?

| Child | Try first | Why | |---|---|---| | Calm, loves listening to music | Kids piano | A visual keyboard builds rhythm and reading | | Energetic, can't sit still | Drums | Whole-body coordination and quick wins | | Loves drawing and crafts | Kids art | Small groups drawing from life; take work home | | Loves singing and performing | Pop vocal | Breathing, pitch and stage presence | | Classical route or orchestra | Violin | Fractional-size violins from age 4 |

One-to-one or group?

Piano, drums, guitar, violin and singing are one-to-one. Early-years piano, theory and art are groups of 4–6, focused on interaction and enjoyment.

Five questions to ask

  1. How many students per class, and do teachers change often?
  2. Can lessons be rescheduled? KARON runs seven days a week.
  3. Are there exams or performances? ABRSM, Rockschool and Central Conservatory exams, plus seasonal concerts.
  4. Do I need to buy instruments or materials? Lessons use centre instruments and basic materials.
  5. Is there a trial lesson?

Fees and timetable

Fees depend on subject, level and lesson length; your advisor gives a clear quote after the trial. Most students take one 45–60 minute lesson a week. Campuses open weekdays 11:00–21:00 and weekends 10:00–21:00.

Adults too

Macau residents aged 15+ can use the PDAC subsidy for piano, guitar, drums and guzheng — see continuing education. Art, singing and violin are not covered.
